Beards

I had to share a few more of the beards that appear in my family albums.

I'm sure I have a few more, but these will d. There are some similarities in style here - especially the bare chin ones. I found that those who didn't have beards usually had moustaches. Very few clean shaven one back in the 19th centry Adelaide. Liz Needle - linking with - Sepia Saturday

  1. Never knew a man who grew an under chin beard. Stands to reason, 'cause shaving there is not easy.

  2. These are great! I've been told that it's possible to date a photograph by the style of beard that appears in it. This would be a good collection to apply that suggestion to.

  3. A very impressive collection of whiskers! Molly's suggestion is right but I think many men kept the style of their early adulthood and not of the times they were living. Their chin beard fashion's connection to their German origins is interesting as Prussians generally sported the Kaiser's upturned curled mustache. A chin beard seems almost like a deliberate protest to that, either for regional or religious reasons.
