Photo a Day 162 - Saturday Critters

The common blackbird is not  bird that gets photographed often here, because it is not a native and it is very common to our back yards.  Nevertheless I am fond of them despite the mess they make to my garden.

They are friendly cheery birds and they do provide the dogs with exercise. I love to watch them tease the dogs by hopping closer and closer then when the boys give chase, they fly just out of reach and laugh at the dogs. Unfotunately every now and then one of the younger ones gets caught because it is not yet smart enough to get out of the way quickly enough.

This is how we see them most often - checking out the lawn for worms and grubs.

Here is a young one just getting his orange beak and darker feathers.

And a young female out of reach of the dogs on the old rotary clothes line.
