These are a selection of the cards all found in the effects of my late great-aunts about whom I have written before. In addition there were a number of exquisitely written notes - all in German - I must get them translated one day.
This next one is a funeral card for my great great grandmother.
This one is a poem written by a pupil to and for my great-aunt "Tante Ida" who was a greatly loved teacher. None of my pupils ever addressed me in such elegant terms.

A fine collection of cards. Very interesting to hear of their personal writings.
ReplyDeleteThese make a heritage item to enjoy and guard for the future.
Wonderful cards! Very elaborate, elegant collection!
ReplyDeleteA splendid array of cards here!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful old cards. How lucky you have them. :->
ReplyDeleteHow precious these old keepsakes become. And with paper mail almost a thing of the past, they become more special with each passing year.
ReplyDeleteYou have some treasures here,Liz. And such a variety. The only thing I have even close to this is a collection of handwritten letters that I wrote to my sister when in college. So glad she kept them.
ReplyDeleteWhat elegant cards -- and prose or is it poetry. The rhythm was poetic so I guess I'd call it poetic prose.
ReplyDeleteThe printed funeral/memorial cards seem far less common in the UK than in the US (and, I see, Australia). I don't know why that is, but I see far fewer of them in photo albums from the UK.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting keepsakes. I have kept letters written to me from my pupils or their mothers. Maybe I should keep them for someone to find and blog about in a hundred years.....probably wont blog then it will be something much more technically advanced.
ReplyDeleteThese cards are beautiful, I don;t have anything like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely reflection of the past... It is sad that exchanging mai is nowday only for hollydays : there is nothing like receive some manuscript words of a friend.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a funeral card from the UK and only a few all together. Precious keepsakes you have.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pieces! More valuable for their age. Your great Tante Ida's pupil's tribute - it's like reading something from a classic novel. Love it!

Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAah, the respect students used to have for their teachers!
They are a wonderful keepsake. The poem carries a lot of sincere admiration that would have been cherished to receive.
